Schnurr's paintings have always been involved with people in urban spaces, but in different ways. She wanders the city sometimes, searching out the scene or event that will capture her imagination, with the intent to put it into her own visual language. When Schnurr finds something, she tries to capture it with a sketch, or by using her camera as a sketchbook, and making a note to return another day with my pochade box or easel.
Most, but not all, of Schnurr’s paintings are of New York City and its incredible diversity. She has been painting New York since she arrived from Ohio 50 years ago; she never runs out of inspiration.
