Growing up in a home with both artistic and creative parents, it was a given that it was in Katy Mims' DNA to become an artist. As a small child and throughout her teenage years, she flexed her artistic muscles with anything that she could get her paws on. Mims played around with ceramics, batiking, silk dying, watercolor, sewing and photography, but it was jewelry design where she felt most at home.
Mims’ passion for jewelry design began in 1997 and turned into a fulfilling career by 2001 when she decided to open
South Paw Studios™. Mims is mainly self taught but did study basic metal-smithing through the Toledo Museum of Art. Her design focus is ever changing as her love for experimentation drives her need to explore with new textures, tools and materials. South Paw Studios’ jewelry fuses chic elegance and edgy spirit for effortless everyday style.
