About the Artist: Janet Ballweg
Ballweg’s work is about constructions of memory and experience. Ballweg uses imagery of the home because she is particularly interested in familial relationships and the creation of stories that address dualistic issues such as power/vulnerability, private/shared space, and presence/absence. The narratives present are intended to be hyperreal - fragments of truth intertwined with fiction - as a means to address the psychological weight of theexperience and the sense of a collective memory. In the end, Ballweg wants the viewer to have a vague sense of recognition of a lingering moment.
